Teens Create Condoms That Change Color When STI Is Detected

Teenagers create condoms with a unique, life-saving side effect

While many teens are either sex crazy or violent, one group of teens decided to create a condom that could positively affect the lives of sexually active people. According to E!online, students Muaz Nawaz, Daanyaal Ali, and Chirag Shah from London’s Isaac Newton Academy decided to create a condom that detects harmful Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) without having to go to a doctor.

S.T. E.Y.E. is a condom that glows a different color if an STD is detected. The condom uses a a built in indicator that changes to different colors depending on the bacteria or infection detected. Each STD has a different color. Chlamydia will glow green, Herpes glow yellow, blue for Syphilis, and purple for HPV. The students revealed why they created the “smart condoms”.

“We wanted to make something that make detecting harmful STIs safer than ever before, so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors,” 14-year-old Ali said. “We’ve made sure we’re able to give peace of mind to users and make sure people can be even more responsible than ever before.”

It’s unknown when the condoms will be released.
