Savannah College of Art and Design student Matthew Ajibade was arrested January 1st on a domestic violence charge against his girlfriend. After Ajibade was arrested, he was found dead strapped to a chair inside an isolation cell at Chatham County Jail. Before his death, Ajibade was stunned with a taser while restrained and left not monitored.

Three jail employees have been charged with involuntary manslaughter. Maxine Evans and Jason Kenny have been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Ajibade. A third employee, contract health care worker Gregory Brown is also charged with the same charge.  Kenny has also been charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to an inmate.

So far nine employees have been charged in the death of Ajibade. Reports say that after the death of the student, log books were falsified to say that they check on Ajibade. According to Ajibade’s family attorney, he suffered from bipolar disorder and at the time of his arrest, his girlfriend gave the police his medication. It’s unknown when the former officers will appear in court.
