Nike Introduces The ‘Back To The Future’ Inspired Self Lacing Sneakers

Who isn’t looking forward Back to the Future 2? From the flying cars, the hover boards, this movie was full of predictions that gave children hopes and something to look forward to in their future. Although 2015 didn’t usher in hologram billboards or aerial freeways, it did however manage to sneak out a pair of light up self lacing sneakers that were rocked by Michael J. Fox in the original 1989 cult classic.

Today, via Michael J. Fox’s Twitter account, it was announced that Nike has finally cracked the code and developed a self lacing version of their previously released Air Mag sneakers. This new technology developed by Tinker Hatfield, famous for his designs of the classic III through XV Air Jordan’s, was built to be as true to the original concepts kicks in the movie as possible. They were sent to Michael J. Fox this morning in celebration of the day that he and Doc went to in the movie, October 21, 2015. The note was written as if it were a message from the future detailing the events of today, on theme with the shoe itself. Nike has stated that “more pairs for support in aid of the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2016” will be released so sneakerheads get your life savings and quick strike lawn chairs ready for this one.

Back to the Future 2 holds a place in the hearts of American pop culture and today is the fruition of a dream of the future. Although we have yet to be served by robo-waiters or re-hydrate our meals instantaneously, we have come a long way since the release of this film and have the power-laces to prove it.
