Marshawn Lynch has been pretty light-hearted about the rumors swirling him, be it the media pressing him about his contract with the Seahawks or TMZ lobbing questions about his potential retirement, but NFL Insider Adam Schefter is reporting that those rumors may be more than just gossip.

According to a just-published ESPN report, Schefter alleges that Lynch has not only told people close to him that he’s walking away, but he’s revealed some of his imminent retirement plans to teammates and members of the Seahawks organization, who are “still attempting to change his mind.” Lynch wasn’t his usual dominant self this season due to a hamstring injury, but he’s been an important cog in the Seahawks wheel, and a stellar two-year strech from 2013 to 2015 helped the Seahawks reach consecutive Super Bowls, one of which they won.

As Schefter points out, it’s been a turbulent off-season for many prominent players and their retirement plans. Justin Tuck and Charles Woodson have officially called it quits, Lions WR Calvin Johnson looks like he’s played in his last game and many believe Peyton Manning–especially if he manages to win tonight–will also be hanging it up.
