David and Collet Stephan’s aversion to vaccines may have attributed to the horrifying death of their own child. When the Canadian couple’s 19-month-old son Ezekiel was sick and in need of a doctor’s visit, the couple opted instead for home remedies, but at a tragic cost.
The Stephans waited until Ezekiel was having trouble breathing to bring him to the emergency room. By that time, the consequences were irreversible. It turns out Ezekiel had a case of bacterial meningitis and empyema. Both are typically cured with antibiotics, but as the parents neglected to get Ezekiel properly treated, the little boy died.
On top of what must be unbearable internal torment, the couple are now facing outrage on social media for their radical health choices. The parents are now on trial for neglecting to give their son “the necessaries of life,” and could potentially spend up to 5 years in prison if charged.
Hopefully, Ezekiel’s death sparks a conversation amongst all countries about where to draw the line between personal beliefs and standard safety precautions.
