Earlier this week, a Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka-less Oklahoma City Thunder team lost a low-scoring game to the Detroit Pistons, who notched a must-needed victory as they attempt to hang on to one of the final spots in the Eastern Conference playoff race as the regular season dwindles down. After the game, Reggie Jackson, who was traded from the Thunder to the Pistons at the 2015 trading deadline after falling-outs with both Thunder players and brass, executed a bit of an over the top celebration, walking around the court waving his arms and skipping down the court.
Russell Westbrook took exception to the antics, and called it “some real bullsh*t” during his post-game presser. Kevin Durant followed up his co-star the next day, completely dismissing both Jackson and the entire Pistons team, asking “Who cares about the Pistons?” before the Thunder took on the Clippers at home last night.
Naturally, this didn’t sit well with Pistons players, and guard Stanley Johnson revealed just how he felt about the shots Durant took when he spoke with reporters earlier today. Johnson said it was “uncalled for,” and admitted that he now has future match-ups between the Pistons and the Thunder “circled on my schedule from now on.” Prior to this back-and-forth, one would imagine that the Pistons and the Thunder would have little reason to be in a rivalry, especially considering they play in opposing conferences and only meet twice a year, but that’s all changed. This just became one of the more high-octane inter-conference games in the league.
Check out Johnson’s full response below.
