The unexpected death of Prince has left us all devastated and grieving, as he was such a musical icon paving the way for other artists to express their creativity to its fullest capacity. We celebrate his life through his music legacy, a legacy that will last forever.
Spike Lee, considered a good friend of Prince, decided to celebrate the legend’s life different from most. Spike threw a block party in Fort Greene last night [Thursday, April 21] in front of his 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks office. Spike invited New York City out to celebrate Prince’s life via social media.
Over 5,000 fans showed up and sang and danced the night away. “It’s a great celebration. We’re all stunned by his sudden death. But, he’s still here in his spiritual form, and we love him,” Spike stated while live on CNN. He went on to speak about how great of an honor it was to be able to work with Prince in his lifetime on a film called Money Don’t Matter Tonight. Spike’s love for Prince was very evident in his speech and in such an effort to celebrate his life in a way that Prince would have enjoyed as well.
Rest in peace to the Purple Rain legend. May your music live forever in our hearts.
