Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling” Debuts At #1 On the Billboard Hot 100

It’s not even fully JT season yet, but don’t tell the charts that.

Justin Timberlake dropped a new single, “Can’t Stop The Feeling,” on Friday, May 6, and it’s already become a chart-topper. Despite being out for just one week, the song has debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, giving Timberlake his 5th #1, and his first since 2006’s “What Goes Around…Comes Around.” In addition, “Can’t Stop The Feeling” becomes just the 26th song in the chart’s history to debut at #1 on the Hot 100, following in the footsteps of recent hits like Adele‘s “Hello,” Justin Bieber‘s “Sorry” and Zayn Malik‘s “PillowTalk.”

Despite the song’s success, it’s likely that “Can’t Stop The Feeling” will be relegated to the soundtrack for the upcoming animated film, Trolls, for which it was created. Timberlake has admitted that working on Trolls has inspired him to begin the process of making a new album–his fourth–and he’s been in the studio with Pharrell, Timbaland, and is working on a collaboration with The Weeknd.

After Rihanna’s nine-week reign atop the Billboard Hot 100, we’ve seen some significant shuffling in recent weeks. “Work” was unseated by “Panda,” which fell victim to the ascent of Drake‘s “One Dance” one week later, and this week we have a new #1 for a third consecutive week thanks to Timberlake’s dominance.
