The 2016 BET Awards airs tonight [Sunday, June 26] at 8pm EST and the Best Female Hip Hop Award is highly anticipated, as always.
Five consecutive award wins has deemed Nicki Minaj the Best Female Hip Hop act from 2010-2015.
The Queens bred artist has been up against other very capable artists like Trina, Eve, DeJ Loaf and Missy Elliott (just to name a few) and still managed to come out on top for the last five years.
Can Nicki pull off a sixth win? The idea certainly isn’t far fetched. Although she hasn’t released an album this year as of yet, there’s still plenty of material of hers to consider during evaluation.
This year she’s up against Lil Kim, Missy, DeJ Loaf and Remy Ma, with DeJ being the only one out of the bunch to actually release an album this year, All Jokes Aside.
All things considered, this might be Nicki’s toughest year yet trying to clinch the win. With Remy being back home and better than ever, DeJ Loaf having plenty of well-received material plus an album and Lil Kim and Missy Elliott being pioneers of this whole movement—the moment of reveal could be in favor of any of these artists.
