ABC Is Apparently Trying To Negotiate A ‘Star Wars’ TV Show

The entertainment director of ABC Channing Dungey, was asked yesterday [Thursday, Aug 4] about the prospects for a Star Wars TV show, and she said that negotiations are on going with Lucasfilms.

Dungey was speaking at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour out in Beverly Hills, and she said that as a fan, she would love to see this happen, and she said that ABC is trying to work out a deal with Lucasfilms to make that dream a reality. She said:

“Oh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘Yes.’ The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.”

She went on to say that the talks are very secret, so she couldn’t reveal any details, but this would be a huge step for one of the film world’s most popular franchises. In fact, this isn’t the first time Star Wars was rumored to be headed for the small screen, but the previous attempts fell through.

The latest problem facing this project is the budget. The Star Wars universe is definitely big enough to support a long spin-off on TV, but fans have come to expect big budget blockbusters, so a cheap, weekly series wouldn’t go over very well.
