On this day in Hip Hop history Nas took the first steps of what would turn into an illustrious career by releasing his debut single “Halftime”. Under the name “Nasty Nas“, the single was put out as apart of the soundtrack for the film Zebrahead, two years prior to his celebrated Illmatic LP. The popularity of this single caught the attention of both the public and record label executives, earning Nas a deal with Columbia Records to put out his debut album. The single served as the perfect preview of the greatness that was to come. Without it, we could have never heard a bar from one of the most prolific MC’s to ever grace the microphone.
