A couple of weeks back, Alicia Keys released her sixth studio album ‘HERE‘ which has landed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts, trailing behind Bon Jovi‘s ‘This House Is Not For Sale‘ album. Keys garnered much attention for this album beginning with her “no makeup” campaign vowing to no longer hide her insecurities behind beauty products and to fully accept all of who she truly was beyond societal standards and expectations.
Furthermore, Keys released her first single from the album, Blended Family, on October 7th. The song was relief to fans who have followed Keys since the beginning of her union with Swizz Beatz. There was much speculation and accusation in the past claiming that Keys started her relationship with Swizz Beatz before he was split with his former wife, Mashonda Tifrere. Now, six years, a marriage, and two children later, Keys and Mashonda seem to have buried the hatchet and chose love over hate at least for the sake of the children involved.
‘Blended Family‘ expresses the reality of a accepting and genuinely loving the bonus children and the parents’ that come from past relationships to make a fruitful blended family. If fans were not moved by the song itself, Keys released a video that was even more heartfelt featuring a giddy Mashonda, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz and all of his sons.
