It’s impossible to ignore this Independent emerging rap artist making a name for himself. The D.C. based music artist, Kareeme Phillip AKA Trini MMF is someone you should be watching and he recently released his new single, “Trap Junkies”.
Hailing from Trinidad and moving to Washington D.C. at a young age, Trini MMF was raised in the Foster Care system. In and out of group homes, Trini MMF had to start hustling to provide for himself.
After the traumatic kidnapping
and murder of his father, Trini MMF had alot of pent up anger and pain.
“I made certain decisions thinking it would help the pain but instead it
just made things worse,” says Trini MMF. He found solace in music.
“Music
became therapy for all of that. It was my way of overcoming demons and
nightmares I created,” reveals, Trini MMF. The obstacles he faced
growing up are reflected in his music as is the case for his newest
single featuring Boosie Badazz called, “Trap Junkies”.
Trini MMF titled the song “Trap Junkies” because it was inspired by street life of hustling and dealing.
Jay Cooper, Trini MMF’s manager who is also a member of Boosie’s management team contacted him about the opportunity to have Boosie do a feature. “He asked me if I would like to do a feature with Boosie knowing how much I look up to him. So of course I said yes. Boosie laid his verse down and then ended up in D.C. for a show so we shot the music video. It was brought to life by Valley Visions and Respecttheshoota.”says, Trini MMF
Drawing from his Trinidadian culture and D.C. upbringing, Trini MMF brings a uniquely fresh sound to rap music.
The musical artists that inspire him the most are Boosie BadAzz and T.I. because he relates the life experiences and subject matter they have relayed in their music. “ I can relate to their music and the lifestyle they used to live and talk about.”
The independent artist wants to be able to do the same for his fans. “Being able to get my story out to the people that came from where I was and motivating them to keep pushing to make it out.” states, Trini MMF. The ability to share his experiences and personal struggles through his music is one of his biggest rewards in creating music.
As he continues to gain popularity, his biggest accomplishment has been doing a song with one of his idols.
“My biggest accomplishment since I started taking music seriously is being able to collaborate with one of my idols which was Boosie Badazz on my single Trap Junkies.”
