George Floyd’s funeral was held in Houston on Tuesday and featured a message from Rev. Al Sharpton who highlighted “Big Floyd” as an “ordinary brother” that is now a worldwide cornerstone.
CNN reports, Sharpton spoke about Floyd’s life stating he was a man that “nobody thought much about” and became a central figure one of the grandest movements in history.
“God took the rejected stone and made him the cornerstone of a movement that’s going to change the whole wide world,” Sharpton said.
“Your family is going to miss you George, but your nation is going to always remember your name. Because your neck was one that represents all of us, and how you suffered is how we all suffer.”
The funeral occurred at The Fountain of Praise Church and saw remarks from former Vice President Joe Biden, Rep. Al Green of Texas, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. The families of Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown, Botham Jean, Ahmaud Arbery, and Eric Garner, who all were killed by police, were also in attendance.
The expenses were handled by Floyd “Money” Mayweather and aside from dignitaries, there were messages of remembrance from Floyd’s family and friends.
