Sad Boy Season’ is the debut mixtape from the self styled sad boy with a big heart YOUWIN. This new release follows a string of singles released throughout 2020 along with his standout debut EP ‘Sadboyhours’.
YOUWIN, hailing from the suburbs of Newtown, Pennsylvania certainly likes to tear away from his hippie upbringing. Cultivating a ‘bad(sad)boy’ image, you just have to look at his instagram as he states he is “Your sister’s favourite rapper”. No track represents this more than the tape’s leading track ‘Christopher Wallace’, a clear nod to one of YOUWIN’s idols . A vibe that captivates with a fun, bouncy beat while still managing to stay grounded through YOUWIN’s authentic flow and keeps you coming back for more with clever hook centric wordplay.
As we delve further into the tape we get to see more sides of YOUWIN’s personality, as well as his versatility. His ability to switch up flows on the fly and his incredible talent for crafting lyrics that brings his own stories and experiences to life is a testament to his strength as an artist. YOUWIN has a tendency to write from the heart, engaging his own emotions and putting them within his writing, and no beat on the track embodies this more than ‘Spectre’. A stark contrast from ‘Christopher Wallace’, ‘Spectre’ is a smooth sorrowful piano beat elevated by 808’s full of feeling, a great platform for YOUWIN to lay bare past traumas which he does with a passionate vocal performance.
The journey through YOUWIN’s debut mixtape is certainly a mixed bag of emotions, each track brings with it a new experience and new feelings. YOUWIN’s determination to perfect his craft is prevalent throughout the project, he manages to give it a relatable feel without it being too overbearing, an often hard task when drawing from your own emotions.
