There are some instances in life when we realize what we want to be in the future. For others, it can come at an early age, while for some the realization can come to light a little later in life.
Kejuan Stradford, a singer-songwriter known as Superstar KJ who was born and raised in Fort Lawn, South Carolina, realized his dream of becoming a successful artist after he started down a different path that didn’t include music in the mix.
“After high school, I enrolled in Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) for motorcycle mechanics where I then graduated. Soon, I enlisted into the army national guard. It was there in basic training when I realized singing and songwriting was my passion,” he said.
Investing In A Childhood Talent
Even though Superstar KJ realized his calling fairly late in his career, he already knew his talent for singing at an early age.
“I always knew I could sing as a kid but I never liked my voice,” he said.
But eventually, he started to believe in himself a little bit more until he had enough courage to take things to the next level. By October 2018, he released his first single.
“Once I gained the confidence to sing in front of crowds, people instantly gravitated towards my sound. When I saw the response I got from my first single, I continued to push out more good music,” Superstar KJ said.
Since then, he has been growing his brand by investing in himself and doing different music showcases in his area. As a result, Superstar KJ managed to hit 100,000 streams on Apple Music.
“It definitely meant a lot to me considering where I came from,” he said.
Creating A Beneficial Brand
Aside from building a brand for his music, Superstar KJ is hoping to create a name that would also benefit others by providing them with a source of livelihood.
“My mentality to do better and be great is what helps my brand become successful,” he said.
Some of the goals that he aims to achieve include having the number one song on the billboard and changing the lives of his family for the better.
“In the upcoming years, I want to be one of the biggest artists in the world while taking care of the ones around me,”
By staying grounded about where he came from, Superstar KJ not only promotes his music but also helps others in the process.
