“I always liked music and always imagined myself being the one on stage performing for thousands of people.” Gustavo Bands, whose real name Bobby Ferguson, was the kid making beats out of food trays and lunch tables in grade school. Since those early days of rhythm, his passion for music has continued to deepen, and he has grown into the artist known as Gustavo Bands. Recording his first songs with his childhood friends in their makeshift studio, the Chicago rapper has grown to make a name for himself as a Chicago underground mainstay. Now, by way of dedication and entrepreneurship, one way or the other, Gustavo Bands is looking to make it big.
Influenced by many things over the years, including artists like Drake and Future, as well as his own motivation to succeed, Gustavo Bands has used each inspiration to further his artistic abilities. Nowadays, the Chicago rapper is motivated by his role as a father. “My greatest inspiration for my music is my kids looking at me like I’m a superhero, honestly,” Gustavo Bands states proudly. With each new motivation, the tenured rapper is able to expand his sonics further while trying to master his trap-pop style of music. His newest release, “Street Lights,” exemplifies just where Gustavo Bands’ career has led him to this point in time.
The hardest part of it all for the Chicago rapper has been dealing with the industry’s business side. To combat his struggles, rather than letting the industry control him, Gustavo Bands has taken the bull by the horns and founded ThurlBred Entertainment, his very own record label. Not only has it been used as a means to share his own music with the world, but Gustavo Band is able to help further the careers of other local Chicago artists. Moving forward, not only is he hoping to expand his label, but Gustavo Bands shares that he has a collection of projects ready to be released in the coming year. If his recent releases are any tell, 2022 could be a big year for Gustavo Bands.
