Gio Basha & Gun Bully’s New Song “Snake Life” Is an Underworld Anthem

How often do you find philosophy and theology in a gangster rap song? If you listen to gangster rap, it should come as no surprise that Gio Basha is making big waves in the New York drill scene but even if you aren’t a fan: the poetry in Basha’s wordplay is undeniable. In his new song snake life, Basha begins the verse with four deeply profound questions, “Why did God make the Devil? Why do I carry all this metal? Does (he) really cherish evil? I got beef I want to settle.” Some of these questions, believe it or not are ancient in origin and do not have any easy answer. This is a great example of how Basha can incorporate philosophy and provoke thought with his bars.

As the song continues, Gun Bully enters the ring and he has his own philosophical quibble, his words equally poetic and even esoteric at times: “We living the worse, mad I want heaven on earth, this gift is a curse, know that sorcery works.” — lyrics that match some of the imagery we see in Gio Basha’s ‘Sub Rosa’ music video. In previous videos Basha has displayed Masonic regalia, skulls, tarot cards and other arcane relics. So “Snake Life” is a perfect addition to this ever-growing body of work. When asked what inspired Gio Basha and Gun Bully to make the song, Gio said very simply put their love of snakes.

Both rappers own several snakes, some of them are even venomous! Their mutual love and admiration for the reptile though, gave the song life. Basha says the music video for Snake Life is already in the works and new music is on the way! We are definitely looking forward to it; so far it’s been like watching a movie. Each video is a part of a whole story and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
