This is the first major win for Richardson since she tested positive for marijuana after Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, didn’t allow for her to compete in Tokyo. What followed was a run of criticism from fans, competitors, and more. Following the win on Monday, Richardson stated, “I would say, ‘Never give up.”

She added, “Never allow media, never allow outsiders, never allow anything but yourself and your faith define who you are. I would say, ‘Always fight. No matter what, fight.'”
