Anthony Davis is a professional and despite being a centerpiece in the trade that shocked the sports world, he is seemingly taking it all in stride.
In his first comments since being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks in a stunning blockbuster deal for Luka Dončić, Anthony Davis shared his initial shock and excitement about the fresh chapter in his career. Speaking to reporters at the Mavericks’ shootaround ahead of their game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Davis revealed that the trade took him entirely by surprise.
“I was shocked. I didn’t know,” Davis admitted, reflecting on how the deal unfolded. “I was actually at home, about to watch a movie with my wife when I got the phone call. I had no idea. I just sent the team a text about congratulating them on the win over the Knicks, big win. I was looking forward to Tuesday’s game against the Clippers, focusing on standings and all that.”
The shock and awe of the trade left Davis in disbelief. “I found out about an hour later that I was no longer with the team. I was in shock, obviously. I had no idea that was happening,” he continued. “But now, I’m kind of over it and just getting ready to play with Dallas.”
Despite the situation, Davis is eager to begin his new journey with the Mavericks. He expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with Nico Harrison, the Mavericks’ general manager, who had previously worked with Davis while at Nike. “Nico believes in me, what I can add to this team,” Davis said, referencing Harrison’s belief that his defensive abilities could help Dallas contend for a championship.
In an expected classy move, following the trade news, Davis took to social media to express his gratitude toward the Lakers and their fans, adding that he was ready to contribute to something “special” in Dallas.
