$440K in Nike Sneakers Stolen From Frieght Trains, Many Are Unreleased Nike Sylvester Jordan 4s

Travis Kelce Debuts Highly Anticipated Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 at Super Bowl LIX Media Day

A wave of train heists in California and Arizona has resulted in the theft of nearly $2 million worth of Nike sneakers, with thieves targeting BNSF freight trains since last March. Even after the arrest of a suspected ringleader, the crime spree has continued.

According to The Los Angeles Times, investigators say the thieves board eastbound trains and hide until reaching remote areas, where they slash air brake hoses, forcing the trains to stop. They then break into cargo containers and steal sneakers, often ahead of their public release.

One of the most recent incidents occurred on Jan. 13 in Perrin, Arizona, where thieves cut a train’s air brake hose and made off with 1,985 pairs of unreleased Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4s, valued at over $440,000. The sneakers, set to retail at $225 per pair, won’t be publicly available until March 14. Authorities continue to investigate the coordinated thefts.

Just last week, professional BMX athlete and New York native Nigel Sylvester surprised New York Knicks players Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart with his latest Jordan Brand collaboration, the Air Jordan 4 “Brick by Brick.” Inspired by NYC’s brick architecture and the concept of steady progress, the sneaker reflects Sylvester’s journey from BMX enthusiast to fashion innovator.
