Karen Huger Sentenced for DUI Following March 2024 Car Crash

Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen Huger has been sentenced to two years, with one year suspended, following her conviction on DUI and other charges stemming from a March 2024 car crash.

According to Fox 5 DC, the ruling was handed down at the Montgomery County courthouse in Rockville, Maryland, where the judge criticized state sentencing guidelines, stating, “You were filled to the gills with alcohol.”

Huger was found guilty on five of six charges, including DUI, negligent driving, failure to control speed, and failure to update her address with authorities. She was acquitted of reckless driving. The charges stem from a March 19 incident when Huger crashed her Maserati into a pole near Oaklyn Drive in Potomac.

During the trial, body camera footage and witness testimony highlighted Huger’s intoxication. An EMT described her as unsteady on her feet, and police footage showed her slurring her speech, cursing at officers, and refusing both a breathalyzer and field sobriety tests.

In court, Huger expressed remorse, calling the incident a wake-up call. She pledged to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for life and advocate against drunk driving. Despite state guidelines recommending a six-month sentence, the judge emphasized her repeated offenses over 17 years, questioning, “What are we waiting for, the fifth offense before we sentence you to jail time?”
