Lil Baby has come under fire from the Atlanta Police Department, which has accused the rapper of reckless behavior that allegedly played a role in a gang-related shooting that left two 13-year-old boys dead.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Major Ralph Woolfolk of the APD described the tragic incident as “gang violence orchestrated by adults” and took direct aim at an “Atlanta-based rapper” for his “cowardly” decision to film a music video in a rival gang’s stronghold. At this location, he knew he wasn’t welcome.
Although Woolfolk did not initially mention Lil Baby by name, Channel 2 Action News later confirmed that he was the rapper in question. The APD has since announced a $50,000 reward for any information related to the shooting.
The fatal shooting took place in May 2024, when Lil Baby was reportedly filming a music video near Verbena Street in northwest Atlanta. When police arrived at the scene, they found three people shot, including 13-year-olds Jakody Davis and Lamon Freeman, who later succumbed to their injuries. A subsequent police statement confirmed that the violence erupted during the video shoot.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the incident occurred during a video shoot,” the statement read. “Investigators with the Aggravated Assault Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
While Major Woolfolk clarified that the victims were not part of Lil Baby’s production team, he suggested that individuals connected to the shoot may have been involved in the broader conflict.
“The people who were shot were not part of the video production team. But there may have been individuals involved in the totality of the production,” Woolfolk told FOX 5 Atlanta.
Lil Baby has yet to respond to the serious allegations made by Atlanta PD publicly. Meanwhile, authorities insist they continue to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.
