Kim Kardashian tried to reclaim a piece of family history, but the O.J. Simpson estate wasn’t having it.
According to Malcolm LaVergne, the executor of Simpson’s estate, Kim’s team offered $15,000 last month to purchase a Bible that once belonged to her father, Robert Kardashian, who was part of O.J.’s infamous “Dream Team” during his 1994 murder trial. The Bible, inscribed with a note from Robert, was part of a collection of Simpson’s personal items heading to auction to help pay off his civil suit judgment owed to the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
LaVergne told TMZ that legally, the estate couldn’t accept Kim’s offer because the item was already under contract for auction. He added that it would have cost him just as much in legal fees to even consider selling it separately, saying he’d have to be “insane” to go that route. Instead, he informed Kim’s team that they could bid for the Bible in the ongoing Goldin Auctions sale.
For those unfamiliar with the backstory, Robert Kardashian stood by O.J. throughout his trial, but their friendship reportedly soured after Kardashian later admitted he had doubts about Simpson’s innocence, citing DNA evidence.
With the Bible officially up for grabs at auction, it remains to be seen whether Kim or another bidder will claim this piece of history.
