Ice Cube Gets Green Light For New ‘Friday’ At Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema

Ice Cube Accuses Warner Bros. Of Discrimination, Wants Studio To Surrender Rights To 'Friday' Franchise and Other Movies

Ice Cube is officially bringing back the Friday franchise, as Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have greenlit the long-awaited fourth installment, Last Friday. This marks the first new entry in the beloved comedy series in over 20 years, following Friday After Next in 2002.

Richard Brener, president and CCO of New Line, confirmed that Ice Cube has reached a deal to write and star in Last Friday, a significant milestone in the project’s long history. Variety also verified the news, adding further weight to the long-rumored sequel finally becoming a reality.

Ice Cube has been vocal about his desire to create another Friday movie, but securing Warner Bros.’ approval to write, direct, and star in the film marks a breakthrough moment. During a June 2024 interview on Flavor Flav’s SiriusXM show, Flavor of the Week, Cube revealed that the project was gaining momentum under the studio’s new leadership, specifically co-chief Michael De Luca.

“They have new leadership: my man Mike De Luca, who used to be at New Line when I first started, when I first did the first Friday and Players Club and All About the Benjamins,” Ice Cube said at the time. “Mike De Luca was there.”

Ice Cube has been a central figure in all three Friday films—Friday (1995), Next Friday (2000), and Friday After Next (2002). He co-wrote the original with DJ Pooh and took on solo screenwriting duties for the sequels. The franchise, known for its hilarious takes on everyday life in South Central Los Angeles, has remained a fan favorite for decades. Originally developed by New Line, the rights to Friday later transferred to Warner Bros. after the studio acquired New Line.

With the official go-ahead for Last Friday, Ice Cube and Warner Bros. are set to deliver another chapter in the iconic comedy series. Fans waiting for years can finally look forward to seeing what’s next in store for Craig and the neighborhood.
