It’s the end of an era. The next time you check a bag on Southwest Airlines, it will cost you $35. Beginning Wednesday, travelers will be charged $35 for the first checked bag and $45 for the second, as reported by CNBC.

The change marks a significant shift for the airline, which long prided itself on not charging for luggage, a key differentiator in the competitive airline industry. However, there are exceptions to the new rule. Business Select passengers and those with A-List or A-List Preferred loyalty status will still be allowed two free checked bags. Additionally, passengers who book with a Southwest co-branded credit card will receive one complimentary checked bag.

The new fees place Southwest in line with most other major U.S. carriers, signaling the end of an era for budget-conscious fliers who’ve long relied on the airline’s customer-friendly baggage policy.
