Andrew Wiggins was the most highly coveted collegiate player a few short months ago, and he was selected first overall in this year’s NBA Draft.  Shortly after, LeBron James announced his return to Cleveland, and it appeared the Cavs had a very dangerous “big 3” on their roster–Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, and Andrew Wiggins.  However, trade rumors began to swirl, and it wasn’t long before the Cavs announced they were sending Wiggins to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Kevin Love.

It may seem like a blow to a young rookie’s morale to be traded by the first NBA team you land on, but according to this report from The Associated Press, Wiggins wasn’t only fine with it, he hoped it would happen.

Wiggins spoke to his college coach, Bill Self, the coach of the Kansas Jayhawks, about the impending situation once LeBron got to Cleveland and the trade rumors began.

When all this trade stuff started, I talked to Andrew and Andrew told me, “I hope I get traded,” Self said. “And I’m like, ‘No you don’t.’ And he said, “Coach, I do. It’s better for me, knowing my personality and what I need to do, to go somewhere where I’m forced to be something as opposed to going in there where they’re going to be patient with me and I’m going to be a piece.

Wiggins got his wish, and now he’ll be playing alongside Ricky Rubio and Derrick Williams in Minnesota, which will be interesting in its own right.
