In a game full of copy cat rappers and emcees that fail to provide originality, a rapper by the name of Godfrey has emerged as a talent with something truly different to add to the game. Combining art, music and life Godfrey seeks to blend organic musical textures with a lyrical depth that is fearless throughout the creative process. With a bold voice Godfrey’s music is honest has an edge and an urgency that’s unapologetic and refreshing. To kick things off Godfrey releases the moving “C.R.V.” which is an ode to his vice of Russian Vodka to pass the time in the midst reminiscing about a painful past or current tribulation.
“I’m very confident in my music and I know a lot of people say that, but when they see me live and when they hear my music, they tell me that they love my show and that’s what this campaign is about. I have a presence because of my poetry and it grabs people, so just letting people know I exist and that my heart is there for them as an artist and that I represent them is big for my fans and I see that,” Godfrey described.
Backed by entertainment manager Bobby Shields who has worked along side Charlie Murphy, Dave Chappelle and others, Godfrey has developed a sound understanding of business. Learning from Bobby Shields about marketing and branding, and how business has to be conducted – these elements show through in his music.
“It was just a a natural inclination to start doing music, we used to record freestyles when I was a kid and as time progressed my love for music got greater. I also used to write poetry a lot, so from that point on I just started mixing the two and it gradually became a business venture,” Godfrey explained.
