GRAMMY Head Neil Portnow Accepts Kanye’s Request to Meet

Earlier today, Kanye West went on his newest Twitter rant, which was focused on the GRAMMYs interaction with rappers, and included a quick announcement of a new Kanye album “coming this summer.” The whole affair appeared to be a continuation of a string of tweets he sent out last night comparing Taylor Swift–whom was referred to as “you know who”–and her recent GRAMMY success to his, pointing out that his platinum-selling Watch The Throne and My Beautiful Dark Fantasy albums were largely ignored. This was continued offline at Yo Gotti‘s album release party in Los Angeles in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, when ‘Ye briefly re-enacted his interaction with Taylor Swift, which he maintains didn’t include her telling him not to use the now-infamous “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex,” lyrics in The Life of Pablo‘s “Famous.”

Today’s rant, however, called for the GRAMMYs to recognize Young Thug, Future–“March Madness” specifically–and A$AP Rocky‘s work in the last year, and a broader conversation where Hip Hop is concerned, rather than relegating it to guys like “[Kanye] and Jay in a suit.” He would go on to specifically ask for a sit down with the President of the Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Neil Portnow, who you’ll recognize as the man that delivers a brief speech towards the end of each GRAMMY awards ceremony. Several tweets later, Kanye’s rant was over–“I’m not a rapper”–but Portnow had caught wind of Yeezy’s request. He’s chosen to honor it.

If both parties follow through on the result of their respective bouts with Twitter Fingers, Kanye will get his meeting, and will have the room to profess his undying love for Future’s narcotic-inspired anthems to the man that can actually affect whether or not they get acknowledged properly.
