An independent filmmaker is alleging the singer copied his work for her own, in particular the trailer for the film. Reports state “Matthew Fulks is suing the singer for allegedly copying his short film, Palinoia,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“The number of aesthetic decisions included in Plaintiff’s PALINOIA Work that are parroted in Defendants’ LEMONADE Trailer demonstrates that the LEMONADE Trailer is substantially similar to the PALINOIA Work,” states the complaint. “The misappropriated content includes both the particular elements that the Plaintiff chose to comprise the PALINOIA Work and the coordination and arrangement of those particular elements.”

The lawsuit against Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment, Sony Music and Columbia Records cites nine similarities between the independent filmmaker’s piece and the singer’s teaser for the special.
