Twitter May Have Revealed The Real Reason for Jay-Z’s Grammy Snub

Many were surprised to see one of hip-hop’s living legends go home empty handed at the 2018 Grammys. Even with the most nominations in Grammy history for the genre, Jay-Z ended the night without any gold trophies. The top three awards for the night were Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Album of the year. All three categories included nominations from Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar and Hov. All three artists released critically acclaimed projects in 2017. At the end of the night, Mars stood alone as the victor, sweeping the categories, with “That’s What I like” for Record and Song of the Year and 24K Magic winning Album of the Year.

On what critics claim to be Jay-Z’s most honest album to date, it may have worked against him in terms of accolades.

Could karma be the reason? As an artist, personal expression is the basis of the creation. Should the subject of the art form cause judgement? Creators utilize their experiences to craft something special. Although Hov opened the door to let fans into his personal life, he gave people a real-life series of events, that some fans may empathize with.

Jay-Z’s presumed snub, takes nothing away from Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar, who dominated, the charts, airwaves and streaming numbers for 2017.

Whether or not this is true, it brings up an interesting point. How are award shows ultimately judging the art, even if content spark controversy? Kanye West may have had something to say about this if he and Hov were on good terms.

They may want to end that beef as soon as possible. As you can see, no one wins when the family feuds.
