Disney+ announced this week that the streaming platform is reviving a beloved classic: The Proud Family.
The original show debuted 19 years ago. News of the show’s revival comes just months after Disney+ added the original show to the streaming platform.
The new series entitled Proud Family: Louder and Prouder sees the return of the original cast. Kyla Pratt is set to reprise her role as Penny Proud. Tommy Davidson, Paula Jai Parker, Jo Marie Payton, Karen Malina White, Soleil Moon Frye, and Alisa Reyes are all set to reprise their roles as well. Cedric the Entertainer is also set to return as Uncle Bobby.
The series will also see the return of the original series creator/executive producer, Bruce W. Smith, executive producer Ralph Farquhar, and co-EP and story editor Calvin Brown.
In a joint statement, Smith and Farquhar said that “In our minds, the show never really went away, as we still had tons of stories left to tell. It’s the perfect time to bring back this show, and we can’t wait to take fans, old and new alike, on this journey with us.”
The new series will pick up where it left off almost 15 years ago after the events of the Proud Family Movie, which served as a series finale.
Agnes Chu, the Senior Vice President of content at Disney+ stated that “The show’s humor and relatable stories are as relevant with audiences today as ever. Our audiences have loved rediscovering their favorite episodes of The Proud Family, and we’re excited Bruce, Ralph, Calvin and the returning cast are creating new stories for their new home on Disney+.”
There has not been an official release date for the new series.
