The Dallas Cowboys Quarterback is taking a stand against police brutality amid renewed tensions in the United States after the police killing of George Floyd. Dak Prescott on Wednesday committed $1 million to “improve police training and address systematic racism through education and advocacy in our country.”
The multiracial quarterback whose father is Black and mother is Native American and White reacted on Instagram to Floyd’s killing saying that he is “disgusted and unsettled” by Floyd’s murder.
“I have viewed these protests and riots in our streets as a form of strength and an attempt to show we as Black people have rights that aren’t being perceived equally as our counterparts,” Dak’s post read.
Prescott’s leadership on this issue has been praised by some of his teammates. Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith and Cowboys defensive end Demarcus Lawrence praised the 2016 Rookie of the Year for taking a stand and pledging the money toward police reform.
