Tattoo Tales #5: Chinx Drugz

Love can be a motherf**ker, juuhearrrd. When you’re on top of the world there’s no shortage of it. When your back’s against the wall however, it’s a different story.

For the latest Tattoo Tales session, rapper Chinx Drugz recalls a low point in his life where he’d forsaken the idea of love. At the time, the New York MC had his sentiments permanently written above his heart as a reminder of just how cold the world can get sometimes.

Originally running with fallen NY rhyme-slinger Stack Bundles, Chinx recently got back to ballin’ on the mic with French Montana and the Coke Boys. Making his mark on the Coke Boys mixtape trilogy, Chinx has been boosting his buzz with his 2012 solo effort Cocaine Riot 2, an appearance on Wale’s Folarin mixtape (“Let A N**ga Know”) and his infectious single “I’m A Coke Boy” which features French Montana, Rick Ross and Diddy on the remix.

Check out Chinx’s tale of cold-blooded body art and lookout for the Coke Boy to keep stylin’ on em with his upcoming mixtape, Cocaine Riot 3 hosted by DJ Drama.

Chinx Drugz:

I got this tattoo in 2007 while I was serving a four-year sentence at Mid-State Correctional Facility in upstate New York. It says “Love don’t live here no more” on the left side of my chest–right over my heart.

Around the holidays I had jumped on the phone and called home. I had my grandmother call my girlfriend. She didn’t pick up for a whole week previous to that. I found out that she was doing her one two with another nigga. I then decided to call my homie and he didn’t pick up his phone either. He had disconnected his line.

I was locked up with one of my white boy friends “Johnny Handsome”. He had already done 20 years in prison at the time. So I said “Yo, Johnny, I want to get a tat that says ‘Love don’t live here no more’, I ain’t getting no love.” He did the tattoo, took about an hour. It cost me 2 packs of cigarettes.

When people see this tattoo the normal response I get is “Damn that’s cold, or “Wow that’s some cold shit!” It’s probably the most significant tattoo I have on my body besides the Stack Bundles one on my neck. There was a song I did where I mention the tattoo. I never released it though because it was a little too personal. I diss my baby moms and also name other people. Maybe I’ll re-edit the song someday so they won’t get offended. If I re-edit it then I’ll release it.
