LeBron and Bronny James Deny Allegations in Car Accident Suit

Another day, another lawsuit. LeBron and Bronny James have firmly rejected all claims made against them in a lawsuit related to a 2022 car accident.

According to The Los Angeles Times, plaintiffs Kiara McGillen and April Lopez filed the lawsuit in October 2024 in the LA County Superior Court. The legal filing accuses the father-son duo of negligence in the ownership, maintenance, and operation of a vehicle involved in a crash that allegedly resulted in injuries to McGillen and Lopez.

Anyways, the lawsuit states that the plaintiffs “sustained personal injuries which caused and will continue to cause pain, discomfort, and physical disability” and required, and will continue to need, medical care, including visits to physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare providers.

Run-of-the-mill car accident filing stuff. It happens EVERY DAY, and that’s why you carry insurance.

According to the plaintiffs, the accident occurred on Pearblossom Highway in Nov. 2022. Initially, the lawsuit claimed that McGillen was driving the car at the time, but this has since been amended, with both McGillen and Lopez now listed as passengers in the vehicle, which belonged to Lopez.

In response to the lawsuit, attorneys representing LeBron and Bronny James filed an official response denying all allegations on Feb. 20, 2025. The father and son’s legal team presented 14 defenses, arguing that any injuries sustained resulted from actions by “persons other than these answering defendants” and that the plaintiffs failed to act with the level of caution expected of a reasonable person.

The filing continued, stating that “the events, injuries, losses, and damages complained of in plaintiffs’ complaint, if any there were, were unavoidable insofar as these answering defendants are concerned and occurred without any negligence, want of care, default, or other breach of duty to plaintiffs on the part of said defendants.”

Additionally, the filing denies that the plaintiffs have suffered any damages in the alleged amounts.

An interesting development in the case came shortly after the lawsuit was filed. The California Highway Patrol’s Antelope Valley office stated they could not find a police report for any incident in Nov. 2022 at the location mentioned in the plaintiffs’ filing. Moreover, the lawsuit does not clarify whether the Highway Patrol was notified about the incident.

It sounds like a dismissal on the horizon or just an insurance company handling it as they usually do.
