From Critic to Citizen: Harlem Rapper Settles in Stockholm
Harlem rapper Azealia Banks is making headlines yet again—this time, for a surprising move to Sweden. The outspoken artist, who once branded the Scandinavian nation as a “racist country,” has now packed her bags and relocated to Stockholm, enrolling in a Swedish school and even learning the language.
Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet reports that the 33-year-old rapper has secured an apartment in the capital, a move that has left many scratching their heads given her past criticism of the country.
Banks first made waves in Sweden back in 2019, when she was involved in a physical confrontation with passengers on a Scandinavian Airlines flight. She later took to social media to unleash a furious tirade, calling Sweden’s population “racist” and even writing that she would “love to see someone bomb the shxt out of this place.” She also infamously referred to Swedes as “ugly, blonde pigs.”
Fast forward to 2024, and Banks appears to have done a complete 180. What changed?
Her newfound appreciation for Sweden seems to have been influenced by her friendship with Swedish music producer Kornél Kovács, 39. She has since embraced Swedish culture, taken up residence in Stockholm, and even started learning the language.
But it was her social media post this fall that truly signaled a shift in her perspective. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Banks suddenly praised Sweden and cheekily noted, “My butt is SO big here in Stockholm.”
A Permanent Move—or Just a Temporary Stay?
Despite her new Stockholm residence, it remains unclear how much time Banks will actually spend in Sweden. Given her unpredictable nature and history of controversial statements, fans and critics alike are left wondering: Has Azealia truly fallen in love with Sweden, or is this just another whirlwind chapter in her unpredictable career?
Either way, it’s clear that Azealia Banks continues to keep the world on its toes—whether she’s feuding, moving, or making music.
