New York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera is choosing gratitude over grief after suffering a severe ankle injury earlier this week. The 26-year-old utility man took to Instagram Thursday night to share his emotions following the devastating setback, expressing appreciation for the overwhelming support he’s received in the aftermath.
In a heartfelt post, Cabrera admitted to battling intense pain and difficult thoughts in the immediate wake of the injury, but said the outpouring of love quickly changed his perspective.

“I had THOUSANDS of messages from my family, friends, fans, agents, coaches, teammates,” Cabrera wrote. “I simply had messages from EVERYONE. I dropped the phone on the bed and with a big SMILE on my face, the first thing I could say was, ‘God, how blessed I am.’”

Cabrera confirmed he has already undergone successful surgery and is now focused on his recovery. While a timeline for his return hasn’t been announced, his mindset remains fixed on coming back stronger.

“With the strength I’ve always had and all this beautiful energy you all give me, I tell you that I will return—and I will return even stronger to keep giving my best every day.”
The injury occurred during a game in Seattle, a moment that stunned both teammates and fans. Despite the grim visuals, Cabrera’s positive spirit has proven to be a major win.
As the Yankees push forward without one of their most versatile players, they’ll look to regroup against their crosstown rivals. The Bronx will be buzzing Friday night as the Bombers kick off a three-game series against the Mets, highlighted by Juan Soto’s return to Yankee Stadium.
