Freddie Gibbs is making it clear he has no respect for rappers leaning on artificial intelligence to craft verses.
In a recent conversation with The Ringer, Gibbs criticized artists who use tools like ChatGPT in the studio instead of relying on their own pen. “Look at AI rap now man. I don’t even believe nobody that write. I don’t even believe if you even really make it anymore cause I done been in studios with motherfuckers and mutherfuckers is ChatGPT shit and I’m like, ‘What in the fuck?’ Like damn, how long am I gonna be able to do this shit? Cause I’m actually making fresh shit,” he explained.
Although he didn’t call anyone out directly, Gibbs doubled down on his point about authenticity. “How long am I going to be able to do it when there’s motherfuckers in the studio typing into a computer to get their music? We in a lazy day and age, man. Heart is dying and you got to ask a computer to write your lyrics, shit is wack,” he added.
Gibbs also opened up about tension with Ye following the release of Vultures 1. His verse on “Back to Me” drew heavy praise, which he says didn’t sit well with the Chicago star. “This na Kanye was mad about that shit. That na was telling nas like, ‘Man, how the fuck this na think his verse is the best on my album?’” Gibbs revealed.
For Gibbs, the reaction was disappointing given his admiration. “When I sent it to him, I sent it to him thinking that, with the premise, he’d be proud of me. ‘Cause I look up to you. So I would think that, I rapped on your album, and people talking about it like this, you would think that a n***a like you would be proud of me. That pissed him off,” he said.
The Gary, Indiana rapper admitted he felt slighted. “A lot of that shit was a slap in the face. I’m putting my shit on pause to be on Vultures bitch ass na. I could be recording Alfredo 2. I put a lot of shit on hold to come to Italy to work with you and for you to shit on some of my best work ’cause you mad ’cause nas saying it’s better, you know what I’m saying?”
