Marlins infielder Dee Gordon, who won last year’s National League batting title with a .333 batting average in his first year in Miami, has been suspended for 80 games for violating MLB’s drug policy.

Gordon, a 6th-year player who spent his first four years as a pro with the Dodgers, tested positive for exogenous testosterone clostebol, an anabolic steroid, both considered performance-enhancing substances. Gordon released a statement early this morning after the news broke.

Though I did not do so knowingly, I have been informed that test results showed I ingested something that contained prohibited substances. The hardest part about this is feeling that I have let down my teammates, the organization and the fans. I have been careful to avoid products that could contain something banned by MLB and the 20+ tests that I have taken and passed throughout my career prove this. I made a mistake and I accept the consequences.

Due to the suspension, Gordon will lose $1.65 million this year, and will be ineligible for the postseason, though its unlikely Miami even makes it that far.
