Roger Clemens
“The Rocket” was one of the most dominant pitchers in MLB history. During his career he racked up 7 Cy Young Awards—a MLB record—a 3.12 ERA, and 2 World Series wins with the Yankees. Clemens struck fear in batters who faced him. Then proceeded to strike them out.
Towards the end of his illustrious 24 year career, steroid rumors began to follow Clemens. When he found himself in front of the grand jury to testify about the BALCO scandal, the public had already handed him a guilty sentence. While it was never proven, fans began to question the validity of his accomplishments. His long and arduous perjury trial—that concluded just last year—helped to further ruin his image. Lots of his supporters and fans turned their backs on him. Unfortunately, when steroids are brought up, it’s close to impossible to shake the ensuing scandal. Clemens learned that first hand.
