25-year-old male taken into custody after shooting at cops during drug transaction

Brooklyn_ShootingAn alleged drug dealer was arrested and taken into custody Friday morning after firing rounds off at cops in the middle of a Bushwick neighborhood in broad daylight.

According to Gothamist, the unidentified 25-year-old male began shooting at officers Essig and Palminteri  during their attempt to break up a narcotics transaction that they were tipped off about at Garden Street and Flushing Avenue.

NYPD:

The officers walked towards the location of the transaction and approached the individual involved to further investigate. The individual, a male, Black 25 years old then ran from the officers and a foot pursuit ensued.

During the course of the foot pursuit, which spanned approximately four blocks, the suspect reached into his waistband, turned around and fired one round from a handgun in the direction of the officers who were closely behind the suspect. The suspect was immediately physically subdued and placed under arrest in front of 480 Bushwick Avenue.

During the shooting, a round flew through the window of a van owned by 54-year-old Osvaldo Valdez who helped police subdue the suspect. “I saw two cops getting a guy on the corner,” Valdez told NY’s Daily News. “The guy had a pistol and he’s shooting. And the bullet came right to my car. I grabbed him and throw him on the floor and I put two hands on his back. And then I put my right foot on his head,” he added.

Charges against the suspect are currently pending.
