Jenny from the block returned to her native New York neighborhood, The Bronx on Wednesday June 4, 2014.
Lopez, teamed up with State Farm at Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park to launch their “Neighborhood Sessions” Summer Concert Series and brought her A game as she performed her very first concert in the Bronx.
The State Farm Neighborhood Sessions concert series will feature some of the biggest names in music who will give thanks to the neighbors and communities that inspired them first. “I am very excited to return home and give the people and the community that inspired me a great show,” Lopez said in a release.
She kicked off the nearly two hour explosive production by paying homage to her fans, singling out the Bronx New York residents explaining “It feels so good to be home”. The gorgeous 44-year-old singer proved song after song, routine after routine that she is in fact the same girl we fell in love with all those years ago. She opened the show with “First Love” a single off of her new eclectic pop album, “A.K.A.”
The crowd went nuts when the next track, a cult classic began to play and she went on to perform “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” and soon after brought out rap superstar French Montana who performed with her on their collaboration, “ I Luh Ya Papi” and even went on to perform his two biggest hits of the moment, “Ain’t Worried Bout Nothin” and “Pop That”. Up next was the moment we’d all come to see as she took us back with another guest appearance this time, an old friend, Ja Rule, the duo performed classic remixes like “Ain’t It Funny” and “I’m Real”. You could hear the entire audience singing along at this point. It was a priceless moment. Lopez gushed, “This is a dream come true”. Jenny later brought out one last special guest, her old friend Fat Joe, then went into a spectacular solo show accompanied only by very fit and attractive male and female dancers, two backup singers and about 8 sexy, sultry wardrobe changes mostly draped in diamonds and booty friendly fringes that were envy worthy. You didn’t want to miss a second during this show, J Lo certainly did not disappoint.
Now widely known as an business woman with numerous titles such as her fashion collaboration with Kohl’s, her fragrance line, beauty deal with L’oreal and also an American Fashion Icon; she reminded us all how she acquired her success brick by brick with a surprise performance sequence from her hit film, “Selena.” She even performed a few ballads, one of which was dedicated to her mother, in attendance that brought her to tears. And even after she’d danced the night away, came back and left us with an Encore performance of “Jenny From The Block”.
Lopez was the perfect artist to kick off State Farm’s Neighborhood Sessions and is also giving back to her neighborhood in a even bigger way than throwing the biggest celebration the borough has seen in some time with an estimated 25,000 attendees, the mother of two founded The Lopez Family Foundation and recently launched a “Center for Healthy Childhood” initiative.
