Today In Hip Hop History: Ja Rule Releases His ‘Venni Vetti Vecci’ Album 16 Years Ago

Murder Inc.’s premier artist dropped his debut LP on this date in 1999

On June 1, 1999, the Murder Inc. camp and Ja Rule released his first full length studio album, Venni Vetti Vecci, via Def Jam Records.

The title, which is a play on the Latin phrase, “I came, I saw, I conquered,” was also the first album released by Irv Gotti under the newly founded Murder Inc. Records imprint. Songs like “It’s Murda” featuring Jay-Z and “Murderers For Life” led the way for this album to reach a million sales before the end of 1999.

Salute to Ja Rule, Irv Gotti and the entire Murder Inc. staff for making this album a certified classic!
