Spider man will stick to the status quo as a straight, caucasian male
Times are changing and many shows and movies are in a series of pendulum swings between homophobia and racism to being more accepting. However, Spiderman will not be swinging on the pendulum. According to Stan Lee, the co-creator of the Marvel superhero, he doesn’t like changing established characters. He said:
I’d like Spider-Man to stay as he is, but I have no problem creating a superhero who’s homosexual. I have no problem with having a black one, a Latino one, a Chinese one, anything—the whole world is our playground. The whole world has heroes we can draw from.
From the sounds of Lee’s statement, there are possibilities of a superhero for everyone. Press play to hear the statement from the horse’s mouth.
