Last night’s Coke Zero 400 race at Daytona was won by Dale Earnhardt Jr., but the headlines belong to an apparently invincible Austin Dillon, who survived one of the more horrific crashes the sport has seen in recent history.

At the conclusion of the race, just before Earnhardt Jr. captured the checkered flag, a cluster of cars, bumper-to-bumber, began to jostle for position on the final stretch, sending Dillon’s #3 car flying over the inner row of cars, and into the track’s protective fence. It was a brutal, fiery demise, and judging by both the TV and the phone footage angles, there would undoubtedly be serious injury suffered by the car’s driver.

So much for that. Dillon appeared to be relatively OK immediately after the crash, and even flashed the crowd a thumbs-up to quell any understandable concern about his well-being. There have also been reports of minor injuries suffered by onlookers near the site of where the car flew into the fence, but nothing major has been reported about the incident, which, in itself, is a near miracle. You can watch two angles of the horrific crash above and below.
