The Los Angeles Clippers are currently 4th in the Western Conference, and enjoyed a great month of January despite their star power forward, Blake Griffin, being sideline since Dec. 26 due to a quad injury. Last month the team learned that due to an off-court physical altercation, Griffin would need to miss additional time, but his absence, despite his per game averages of 23 points and 9 rebounds, hasn’t significantly hurt the Clippers’ play. They’ve lost just 4 of the 19 games they’ve played since losing him just after Christmas, and that statistic may have helped the Clippers grow comfortable with the idea of moving on without Griffin.

Mitch Lawrence of the Sporting News and Forbes reported that the Clippers are discussing a deal that would send Griffin to Denver, but wasn’t specific about what Los Angeles could–or should–receive in return. The Nuggets aren’t completely out of the playoff race–they sit 6 games off the pace for the 8th spot in the Western Conference, set by the Utah Jazz–but it’s unlikely that they’re able to make a serious run with more than half the season already over. It would certainly be a good fit for Denver, Griffin could be the dominant post force they need to compliment their young wing players, but Griffin won’t come cheap.
