Rapper Killer Mike wants legendary baller Michael Jordan to put his money where his mouth is with his recent challenge.
Taking to Instagram, the artist continued his efforts to get more Blacks to open accounts at Black-owned banks by publicly reaching out to one of the biggest icons in the community. Responsible for one of the most sought after shoes ever, Jordan has made millions off his namesake sneaker. For this reason, Killer Mike has called on the basketball player to be a leader once again in a different manner.
Believing that Jordan’s lead will create a domino effect, Mike has asked Jordan to take some of his profits from his upcoming “Olympic” Air Jordan 5 August 20 release and deposit them back into Black-owned banks. After the NBA Hall-of-Famer recently donated two million dollars to the NAACP, Mike’s request is not too much of a stretch.
Taking the opportunity to address Blacks and Black allies as a whole, Mike encourages them to utilize Jordans as a “…tool for your empowerment and not something that chains you into poverty,” and breaks down how to do so starting with opening an account at a Black-owned bank. Directing the general public to save their money, build their credit and pay bills on time, Mike continues his attempts at building wealth in the Black community.
