The National Emergency allows Trump to funnel funds from other departments in order to build the wall that he has promised the American people since he starting campaigning for office.

“We don’t control our own border,” Trump said. “We’re going to confront the national security crisis on our southern border, and we’re going to do it – one way or the other we have to do it.”

It has been reported that the President will take $3.5 billion from the military construction budget, $2.5 billion from a Defense Department drug prevention program, and $600 million from the Treasury Department’s drug forfeiture fund. With the $1.3 billion that Congress gave the President as part of a compromise, Trump now has an $8 billion budget to build the border wall.

Democrats are expected to file a lawsuit challenging the emergency declaration and if it goes to trial, the case will ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court.
