Katie Sowers Makes History as First Female Coach During The Super Bowl

Katie Sowers made history during the 2020 Super Bowl as the first female member of an NFL coaching staff during the big game.

Sowers has been an offensive assistant coach with the San Francisco 49ers since 2017.

In a statement, Sowers says while she is the first female to coach during Super Bowl she is doing all she can to pave the way for other women.

“It really is. But what I want to continue to say is that even though I’m the first, the most important thing is I’m not the last and we continue to grow it. I’m willing and I’m happy to be a trailblazer,” Sowers said. “I know that other women, other young girls are watching this and maybe their path is a little clearer now.”

Sowers began her career by winning the 2013 IFAF Women’s World Championship. After Sowers retired she started coaching with the Atlanta Falcons in 2016. Sowers has been with the 49ers since 2017.

Sowers also encouraged other women that if they want to become coaches then they can.

“I know that other women, other young girls are watching this and maybe their path is a little clearer now.”

Talk about girl power!
