What does it mean to be an introvert in the music industry? For producer/engineer Matisse Tsoy and his appropriately branded “Introvert Party” team, it means everything.
Like countless others nowadays, Matisse and cohorts Nate WILL (PA, producer), Julian “Juuuu” Thomas (MI, rapper/producer), Cory V (MA, rapper), and Yz (MA, rapper), all met on social media. And with the internet having developed well into maturity, Matisse et. al. have more tools than they could ever need to help grease the social wheels that introverted people in music often struggle with.
“I love it when it’s just me and the music,” Nate says. “Facetime definitely has value just like it always has, but so much more can be accomplished remotely than when we were growing up.” Matisse continues, “A super underutilized trick is to treat internet relationships just like you would in-person ones, and social media like your town. Been no such thing as ‘local’ for a while now.” The Introvert Party sees the internet as their “city” and aims to show other cripplingly shy creatives that they can be themselves and get their art out without compromising their mental health.
“Mental health is more important than ever, especially in an industry where you bear your soul and are almost constantly judged,” Matisse says. “Vulnerability is tough, but also therapeutic,” Cory adds.
